(they come from “the south”)
(i was really sensitive to ‘racism’ when i was a kid)
(but only racism against ‘african-americans’)
(and so i became ‘racist’ against ‘rich white old southern american white anglo-saxon protestant men’)
(not that i personally knew many ‘southerners’)
(or ‘protestants’ for that matter)
(and so i hated “rednecks”)
(and i think i still do to this very day)
(although i also think randy newman was picking an easy target as much as i used to enjoy his ‘rednecks’ song)
(part of him just loved singing ‘nigger’ in a song and getting away with it)
(a new version of ‘al jolson’ in blackface)
(although this time the ‘jew’ was only imitating the ‘white man’)
(as he sings the song AS ‘all rednecks’ as a group)
(which is really clever)
(“WE don’t know our ass(es) from holes in the ground…”)
(i’d like to see this song scored for a ‘broadway musical number’)
(or would that permanently eliminate ALL subtlety to the song?)
(remember that it’s really about how art ‘ages’)
(‘better’ / worse reputation over time)
(and amongst what demographics?)
(or just going from ‘unknown status’ to merely ‘gain’ a reputation over time)
(be it ‘good’ or ‘bad’)
(Or up for ‘debate’ with all other currently ‘sentient beings’ at an (INFINITELY SMALL + THEREFORE IMPOSSIBLE)
