SPRING 2014:
now they want 6 lines of text with performance history from past 2 years / upcoming itinerary / recent club performance videos…
and yet they still remember that nasty e-mail…they responded to my gig request by sending me back the email i sent them earlier…
so now they can go back to fellating jeff taylor…their “star”…he’s probably masturbating to his own music in his brooklyn bedroom at this very moment…
30 JUNE 2008:
sent email to info@rockwoodmusichall.com
Hi, I’m interested in booking a performance this month at Rockwood Music Hall. The band is a Manhattan-based rock trio (with a rotating cast of musical guests). The current lineup is a NY reunion of our Boston-based band “Gatti-Vision” (guitar/bass/drums) and we are currently booking NY shows for Summer 2008 before a fall campus tour.
Music and performance clips can be found @ www.gattivision.com
Thanks,
JoGa

26 MARCH 2008:
(sent email to thomas for show booking)
he gave me the contact info for the booking agent (“tom”) but i never heard from him. then everytime i went into NYC, i’d leave a CD with the cute bartender. nothing came of it…
so i finally got sick of the brush-off and wrote them a nasty e-mail…
SUMMER 2007:
i’ve attempted to book a show here for years. ever since i saw jeff taylor perform here ’round summer 2007 (while walking home from BGC Partners on a friday night)…

22 JUNE 2015:
got an email from 169 bar just after i read an email about getting 169 views on my webshots page…
(i claimed next sunday’s slot @ 6pm)
i booked a show there the following week with liliana…
(a sunday evening)
(charles hanson was resistant to booking a show)
(“will anyone show up?”)
(and lo and behold nobody showed up)
(even bergblum was running late)
15 JUNE 2008:
(first i played acoustic accompaniment to a liliana show)
(although my music is far better…)
(though we closed w/ “let it charge”)
e-mailed charles hanson
(1 JUNE 2008)
(he offered 11pm slot on june 1)
(along with two other future dates)
(tuesday june 17th at 1pm)
(sunday june 29th at 9pm)
(he would only book me for one date)
(he’d have to “check me out” first)
(i told him i would like to play all three dates)
(3 shows in 2 weeks)
(and that i could bring in 40-50 people)
(a flagrant lie)
(a baldface guy)
(a brutal sigh)
(a loaded gun)
(had a problem with “loud drums”)
“why the loaded gun?”
(then he offered to change set to 9pm)
(he was incredulous about my claim to bring 40-50 people)
(he would book me another set if i brought in many people)
(he “moved stuff around” to get the 9pm slot)
(then he finally settled on 7:30pm)
(he instructed me to confirm booking email or he would book the slot with some other act)

SHANE TAYLOR
CHRISTINE FISHER
ALISON MUELLER
FISHER’S INDIAN DATE
(i only brought in 9 people)

(told him i can play a few sets if possible)
(IMpossible!)
a few weeks later, i had my own show there
(father’s day 2008)
(with liliana on vocals/guitar + socrates on backbeats)
(i made sure they had brushes for the drums)
(i invited jon to play but he was a no-show)
9PM – 10PM
oh those were the days, weren’t they? playing those dues-paying diarrhea gigs in the middle of the seediest parts of chinatown for your parents and other assorted blasts from the pasts. but it was fun while it lasted…

(first $80 goes to venue)
(then i keep $7 for every subsequent ticket i sell)
(then ticket prices were changed to $10)
(keep $9 per ticket)
(why the change?)
(so the venue will receive $100 per band instead of $80)
(i was sent a ‘contract’ for the show)

15 DECEMBER 2008:
(monday night)
(i booked a show through the venue’s booking agent)
(after seeing socrates perform there with his band earlier in the fall)
(my guitar strap broke)
(riff forgot some parts for the drums)
(ames parents attended the show)
(as did cheryl)
(otherwise it was a thoroughly dismal outing)
NATIONAL UNDERGROUND
(downstairs)
i originally booked an 7 april 2010 national underground show
(7:30pm wednesday night)
(through ‘angela’…another e-mail “booking bot”))
(well that never happened…)
(you just can’t trust these “booking agent” flakes)
so i just ended up walking into the joint and booking the gig myself…
it looked like a nice play to play…
(and the male bartender gave me the e-mail address of the booking agent)

(just electric guitar and voice)
(i went through about 12 songs)
(and my voice felt great tonight)
(only CJ Stenisci says he’ll be there)
(…and he won’t)
(allie mayzel and stef’s cousin christa marie said “maybe”)
(…and they won’t)
(danny coury “works too late” to come)
(same with stein)
(i was hoping that liliana and her boyfriend’s crew frequented the joint)
(but they never showed…)
(used house amp)
(first one didn’t work)
(so i used their other fender amp)
(with a bit of reverb)
(mama was the only person who came to the show)
(she videotaped the show)
(along with the soundman (a nice white dude), a cute blonde bartender, and a couple appreciative stragglers…)
(i was supposed to play ‘downstairs’)
(which was really the ‘underground’)
(but i played ‘upstairs’)
(which was really the ground floor)
(there was no “upstairs”)

drummers required to bring cymbals
either i’ll drive them in for roboray or he’ll have to bring them in himself…
for the facebook event, i got 5 affirmative responses to the invite:
roboray (who was playing the fucking show!)
rain man ranelli
emilia

eric(a) birmingham
(all but roboray failed to show…)
(along with 32 ‘maybes’)
(all of whom failed to show…)
including:
jessica tuck
kristin savoly
robert mcnamee
i thought roboray would be able to get a couple hot chicks to show…
(most notably christine hauer and amanda lynn best…)
(even though they were under 21 at the time, they were more than hot enough to get into any 21+ club…)

nocoverbooking@hotmail.com
performed solo show @ desmond’s tavern (with loops pedals) in may 2010
(i played desmond’s tavern three times in 2009)
(as my friend derrick noted, the place seemed ‘cleaner’ this time ’round)
(after the show, i decided to go out with my fans/family/friends. i had driven the yukon in from jersey. i seemed to have the backend of said vehicle illegally parked in a hotel loading zone at some hotel franchise that has just moved in next door to desmond’s tavern. forgive me if i forget the name)
(to make a long story short, i indulged in one too many tequila shots. and when i went back to my yukon and then decided to hit another bar before calling it a night, i inadvertently locked my keys inside car. not a smart move mind you. i only realized i did this after hopping a taxi to the east village and ordering the driver to turn around once i in a panic realized i was without car keys. in this panic, i believe i lost my FLIP camera (featuring footage of the performance earlier that night) for good. the taxi driver was kind enough to inform me of a locksmith located a block away, which of course was closed. so i flagged down an NYPD officer. the chubby white man took pity on me but offered no solution. he advised me to call 911. which i did. and the 911 operator told me he couldn’t help me. so i went to the subway help desk. and he told me to go to duane reade ‘to buy tools’. which of course i did. and the 2 cashiers didn’t know what to tell me)
NYC booking agent “lee sobel” lined us up with the midtown manhattan gig…
(i’ve never actually met the dude)
(we only communicate via e-mail)
(i believe he started out as spam in my inbox)
he’d send me emails that went something like this…
Saturday September 12 : 10, 11PM, 12AM OPEN
Saturday September 26 : 8, 9PM OPEN
Saturday October 3 : TOTALLY OPEN
Saturday October 10 : TOTALLY OPEN
Saturday October 17 : TOTALLY OPEN
Saturday October 24 : TOTALLY OPEN
Saturday October 31 : TOTALLY OPEN
PERFORMANCE 1:
(valentine’s day 2009)
played as duo w/ riff on drums
(ames was a no-show)
i had high hopes for this performance. two hotties (olivia serino + erica henriques) responded affirmatively to the facebook invite (although neither of them showed up…)
all these facebook “false positives”…my god!
(most are no-shows once showtime rolls around…)
now you know why JoGaBot has a decidedly misogynistic streak…
(“me no fan of woman…”)
(“oh, like me!”)
though el madre was always a reliable attendee to the shows (even if there was no one else there…)
cheryl lynn austin (mark’s “cafe orlin” co-worker) and her friend “kate” were in attendance…i felt bad about blowing them off after the show…
for this was the very evening that riff brought along his cornell friend “purba mukerjee”. he drove us all back to his father’s house in watchung that night. purba and i waited until everyone went to sleep and shared a joint on the back porch. things progressed rather smoothly from there. if only i’d had a condom on me…
(here she is in riff’s watchung bedroom…she’s the gal on the right…)
(i never saw her again…)
PERFORMANCE 2:
(5.9.09)
(what can i say? we’re masochists. we enjoy repeatedly performing at long-forgotten filthy irish pubs in midtown manhattan…)
PERFORMANCE 3:
(august 2009)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N03-k2pCeOE
PERFORMANCE 4:
(may 2010)
a solo performance (using my BOSS RC-50 for loops)…
no video footage exists (as i carelessly left my video camera at the venue)
(i also locked myself out of the car and got punched in the face that night…)
in the summer of 2010, i met a girl named “sara” after performing @ desmond’s tavern in midtown manhattan. though thoroughly blue-eyed, she seemed of russian extraction. she rubbed up against me in just the right way in an extremely crowded “meat market” bar (swarmed with “wall street lite” schlumps). i was already on edge that night. i had my electric guitar strapped to my back, making me even more of a nuisance. the smattering of struggling male artists at the bar must’ve considered me a real “douchebag” for reminding them that they themselves should be “baring their peacock feathers” by carrying around their musical instruments.
i got her phone #. she stopped returning my text messages when i revealed i was “joga”…
i ended up having a hell of a shitty night. i foolishly locked myself out of my car. then i met up with the younger sister at an upper east side bar and ended up getting punched in the face by some meathead who took offense to me dancing with his friend’s girlfriend…
(every summer i end up getting punched in the face. cars also seem to cause me problems every summer. the very next summer, i was arrested for OUI and had my skull fractured from a punch to the face delivered by my younger brother. come to think of it, in most of these episodes, i end up being lured into danger by the younger sister. the OUI bust occurred because i was heading back to the jersey shore for her graduation party. and this facepunch occurred when i followed her out to the upper east side for more meatheads dancing to shitty top 40 music. each summer merely ups the ante!)
in any case, i have a strong attraction to “saras” of all shapes and sizes. beginning with “padua”. in this case, at least i had the good sense to immediately delete her phone #. and without knowing her last name, there’d be no temptation to track her down via the world wide web…
and i haven’t been back to desmond’s tavern since!
CONOLLY’S KLUB 45
(june 2009)
a solo acoustic set
(the rest of the band was already starting to flake…)
.
CAFFE CIELO
debbie hannon first suggested performing @ caffe cielo in summer 2010
(mama and i had visited her husband’s (adopted) parents’ house via waverunner that afternoon @ my urging)
caffecielo@gmail.com
(212)246-9555
i started playing monday night open mics there in fall 2010
(driving in from watchung and parking the car in midtown manhattan)
“pedro”:
i mostly went there to hit on bigtittied bartender taryn chory
(who was also commuting from watchung @ the time)
caffe cielo closes @ 10:30pm / bar @ 11pm
she seemed into the music after my first acoustic set (i played 3 songs)
(of course she’s an aspiring “singer” herself)
(accompanied by the old man house pianist “michael”)
(couldn’t figure out whether he was gay or just creepy…)
got her phone # but she never returned my calls…
the second time i played there she was notably cooler to me…
she was busy flirting with a chubby middle-aged patron…
when i pressed her on the issue, she merely responded: “you don’t know what it’s like to be a woman!”
i was also trying to establish a connection with paul schaffer (the “letterman” host)
he was reputed to regularly frequent the establishment…
one night in november 2010 (another “open mic” night), i played a particularly great set to a packed house…but it was right when paul schaffer stepped out to the bathroom…so he missed it…
i later approached him and attempted to give him a CD…he told me that he doesn’t have any pull when it comes to who gets booked on the letterman show…
i finally booked a show proper with the owner joseph gambuto’s busty young daughter “isabella”…we were set to perform on 12 december 2010…
august 2011:
(“bye bye”)
rachel hasn’t been there in a while
(hit up caffe cielo)
taryn chory (next monday open mic)
(she’s hanging on the beach with isabel gambuto)
i may as well go for what little options i’ve got left…

HOW TO PROMOTE THE SHOW: Show promotion is a great way to remind your fans that you are out there rocking the world! Some easy and effective ways to promote your show are the following:
* texting/calling everyone you know and inviting them 1-2 weeks in advance
*making a facebook event invite and inviting all of your friends + sending a show reminder to all attendees the day prior
*inviting people you run into all throughout the week before the show
*sending out a mass email invite
*creating an electronic flyer to advertise for the event.
*for bands: if each person in the band commits to drawing at least 2 close friends, then you have met the draw requirements collectively without anyone having to try extremely hard
(3 january 2009)
jogabot performed as a power trio
(ames on bass / riff on drums)
(march 2009)
he played a show @ the underscore with riff on august 1 2009. they were accompanied by dyke van larnald. ames flaked out on the gig. they picked up riff at the denicholas home. it was that night he met barnet. she was a high school friend of alison boylan, who was a friend of riff. she and his brother had apparently worked on some science project together. he didn’t notice her rack at first (she didn’t wear very revealing clothing), but he was attracted to her from the very beginning. so he got her cell # before she left. she seemed confused. bob raymar and aliza olive were also on hand. he also picked up ashley mount’s number as she manned the door. after the show, larnald and joga met up with ash n and her vampire friend at a nearby bar.
(so i got my jewish support system…)
played a solo show @ the underscore on mischief night (–> halloween) 2009
(it was a midnight set and there was nobody there except the other bands and a plain jane bartender…)
(who took pity on me and helped me carry my equipment to the car…parked in a garage a few blocks from the club…)
the middle-aged bassist from the prior set even had the audacity to come up and play bass on one of my songs…
(without drums, bass sounds absolutely awful)
(especially when you’re unfamiliar with the song)
(the guy looked like a hispanic steve perry)
(he probably just took pity on me…)
come to think of it, there were several cute bartenders that worked @ the underscore
i have not played @ the “underscore” since
(and i don’t plan on ever playing there again!)

jaclyn (of SEG) told me that they were hosting a “talent show” at public assembly on 1 october 2008. $8 tickets. profit of first 12 tickets goes to the venue. then you keep 50% of the remaining ticket sales. SEG was offering free promotion for the event. they give each artist 500 promo flyers and the SEG street team delivers more promotional material around the venue in the days leading up to the show. SEG works closely with a PR firm called “absolute pitch” that will send representation to the show. the band that sells the most tickets will get a complimentary meeting with the firm after the event.
(then this # was changed to ‘400 flyers’)

by october 2009, “jogabot” was on its last legs…
(ames provided me with a list of brooklyn hipster venues)
i’ve got a word or two for all these hipper-than-thou brooklyn nightspots. lemme letya in on a little secret. they are all managed by goofballs who pine for the days of hardcore punk rock. how about instead of making burgeoning bands bring their entire backstories to each and every gig, try attracting some clientele to your establishment so that the brand new bands can actually build a fanbase? because as a bandleader myself, how i hate the task of dredging up anyone and everyone from my past just to see me cringe-inducingly express myself under the white-hot spotlight. only to have a fast-aging femihipsters criticize my outift! how’s that for hell? talk about eternal recurrence!
i sincerely believe that hipster brooklyn is the final refuge of those underappreciated cute girls from high school who were never really given a chance to shine. well lemme letya in on another little secret. there’s a REASON they weren’t given that chance. and it’s all my fault actually.
now i hear they’ll fina ya for putting out flyers! what kinda hipster totalitarian regime is this? and how exactly can one infiltrate it without getting hurt? (emotionally or otherwise)

31 MAY 2014:
(saturday night)
11:15pm
slot available on may 30 (friday night)
(opening for judas priestess)
i should’ve promoted the show better…
roboray had better bring friends…
(or at least his siblings)
i wonder if cheryl lynn will show…
(i know the old man and emilia would never come see a show)
AI said “maybe”
michael anthony will be there
(he’d better bring friends)
nick crowley will be there
(he’d better bring friends)
(and his girlfriend should bring friends)
(or is she pissed that i defriended her?)
we took the stage sometime after 11:30pm…way too late…i should’ve taken the 8pm slot…
setlist:
helter skelter
take me to the river
born on the bayou
hannah montana
timber
roadhouse blues
hell hath no fury
oh! darling
zero
my voice was not in top form…my guitar kept going out of tune…gotta get that fixed…and my tuner AGAIN disappeared right before we were to take the stage…cheryl captured the set but left after 20 minutes…so the latter half was relegated to a junk shot on the side of the stage…oh well…
nick brought his girlfriend and 4 friends
(one of them an attractive young indian girl)
(and three generic dudes)
(they had to leave before our set ended because they had to catch the train back to jersey)
i thought the set was solid…but both cheryl + michael anthony said i was “tipsy” and it wasn’t a good show…roboray and i had been drinking bud lights during the day…and nick bought me a gin + tonic before the show…and i asked cheryl + michael anthony for a beer before i hit the stage (they refused)…i was too broke to afford booze myself…i could only chain smoke…
slot available on june 12 (thursday night)
(opening for “tracii guns”)
(a proto-slash)
GOVERNOR’S ISLAND SHOWS
FIGMENT
*WEBSITE*
*PICS*
13 JUNE 2010:
then i performed a solo “show” @ the 3-day FIGMENT concert series on governor’s island…
(june 11 – 13)
(friday – sunday
(i believe i performed on the sunday)
JC Cassis lined me up with the gig…
i wasn’t selected for the “main stage”…
“when you get off the ferry, either from Brooklyn or Manhattan, walk to the right around the perimeter of the island and you will come to a long, straight road that leads right down to the Point Stage. It’s probably about a 30 minute walk, perhaps a bit longer if you’re carrying equipment, so please allow time for that. Ferries leave every 30 mins from Manhattan and continuously from Brooklyn, and the ride itself is about 5 minutes, but PLEASE NOTE you should show up way early for ferries in case there are huge lines to get on them, which there probably will be…”
13 june 2010
(sunday 11am – 6pm)
governor’s island
FIGMENT
(to learn more visit http://figmentproject.org)
(joga features on the Picnic Point Stage/Point Stage/Pop Music stage @ 1pm)
(also featuring JC Cassis)
(next year we’ll be on bigger and better stages i tellya!)
arrived @ governor’s island by 11:30am and got to the “stage” (i was actually just playing in the middle of the park) by 1:30pm…i even brought my own extension cord…and in case of rain, i brought a tarp (luckily it didn’t end up raining that day)…
(check in @ figment headquarters building 110)
this is located just to the right when you get off the ferry from Manhattan. After you check in, make your way to the Picnic Point Stage/Point Stage/Pop Music Stage. It may be referred to as any one of those three names…
i used matty manning fender g-dec loop amp (and guitar chord)
(along with my own microphone + mic stand)
i wasn’t feeling particularly healthy that day…
i didn’t gain much from playing this gig…
