(i was debating walking onto the team)
bob toresco assumed that i would (in a conversation at the beachhouse that summer).
but i didn’t bother after finding out my roommate brendan malone was a walk-on.
he’d probably also requested a single. so they must’ve stuck the lone wolves together and forced them to form friendships.
i guess it worked.
at one point nick sobic encouraged me to walk on sophomore year.
he said i was almost as big as some of the tight ends in rotation…
i didn’t bother going to any of the games during the 2002 season…
i even stayed in the dorm during the ‘harvard-yale game’…
that was embarrassing…
In the ivy league, the best record wins the championship at the end of the season…
(w/ tiebreaker games if necessary)
3-year varsity footballer for watchung hills
“JUNIOR YEAR”
(as a ‘tight end’ I served the quarterback bassman with my body)
(how sexually humiliating)
(as a defensive player you are a demon)
(wreaking havoc in a controlled fashion)
(thank god for football!!!)
(the second against north hunterdon which i won for the team by recovering a fumble)
(yet because i was taught to “fall on the ball” by the humble lineman coaches, i didn’t pick up the ball and run into the endzone)
(like a cocky black NFL player would without hesitation)
(imagine how differently my life would’ve turned out)
(a JUNIOR DEFENSIVE LINEMAN SCORING THE WINNING TOUCHDOWN AGAINST NORTH HUNTERDON!)
i finally defeated cody brenn senior year when I became the ‘strongest warrior’
(as measured by bench press)
(kostibos only referenced this when he wanted to put me down)
(“c’mon, you’re the strongest guy on this team and you can’t…”)
(kind of like the harvard: “you went to harvard and you can’t….”)
THE J-FACTOR!
(we lost our final game against bridgewater)
(i jumped offsides as defensive end in the final seconds of the game)
(middle linebacker cody brenn screamed at me and blamed me for the loss)
(cody brenn as surrogate joseph?)
was going to walk onto harvard football
(freshman roommate brendan malone was walk-on linebacker/fullback)
(he was a cambridge local)
(shorter + stronger than me)
(good irish boy)
2008:
5-5
(made the playoffs)
benedict retired in 2009
(after going 2-8)
i last had him in 2001
to 2011
spencer brenn as new girven
(freshman football coach)
SUCCESSION OF WH QBS:
frank summers
joe walsh
joey giaimo
tommy giaimo

HARVARD
harvard-yale
(crimson vs. bulldogs)
‘the game’

(‘yale’ leads)
(65 – 53 – 8)

(“the crimson”)
(i (very briefly) debated ‘walking onto’ the team)
(only a matter of minutes before i decided not to)
(although part of me thinks that would’ve been the ‘right’ thing to do)
(as in “more challenging” = “better”)
