#1 SINGLES FROM ‘1984’ TO ‘PRESENT’*
*CREATE “TOP 12” LISTS*
*1984*
(“WHEN DOVES CRY” WAS FINAL #1 SINGLE RELEASED BEFORE I WAS BORN)
(“any significance?”)
(“i’d like to ‘think so’ at the (very least))
“when doves cry” –> “ghostbusters” theme –> “what’s love got to do with it?”
(three black artists in a row!)
(and one of them and older woman!)
(“prince” –> “ray parker junior” –> “tina turner”)
THE FINAL “1984” singles:
“missing you”
(john waite)
(a REALLY CHEESY song by a wimpy-looking limp-dicked englishman playing “adult contemporary glam”)
(to finally be replaced by “let’s go crazy”)
“prince and the revolution”
(another ridiculously pompous band name!)
(i always found it ‘kinda cheesy’ in retrospect)
(the beatles did it cooler 20 years earlier with “hard day’s night”)
(in “black and white” no less!)
(i didn’t start listening to that song until ‘summer 2005’)
(that was my go-to “treadmill song”)
(along with the “revolver” album)
(which i played as a ‘technicality’)
(it being the ‘best-ranked’ album by the ‘best-ranked ensemble in modern musical history)
(that was replaced by stevie wonder’s adult contemporary lame snoozefest “i just called to say i love you”)
(and ironically enough that ended up becoming his biggest hit!)
(even though his 70s albums were way better)
(AND won the most ‘grammies’ ever)
(i think he may’ve even gotten sued by someone who claimed to have written “i just called to say i love you”)
(i listened to this a few times during my third and final spring @ ‘harvard’)
(when i started downloading the stevie wonder catalogue (via ‘liimewire’) on a whim)
(as i had gotten the song “isn’t she lovely?” in my head seemingly ‘out of the blue’)
(“…and into the red…”)
“caribbean queen”
(no more love on the run)
(a trinidadian (rather than ‘jamiacan’) englishman of ultimately african descent)
(‘african descent’)
(‘aren’t we all?’)
(‘aren’t we all ‘out of africa’?)
“billy ocean”
(another lame ‘adult contemporary R&B snoozefest)
(i don’t even want to subject my ears to them on the chance that it may get unwittingly stuck in my head)
“wake me up before you go-go”
(george michael’s group “wham!”)
(young gay englishmen)
(the “elevator music” of my early years)
(more ‘cheesy’ than ‘hearthfelt’)
(me to ‘the masses’ : “what is WRONG with you people?”)
(a collective sin to have songs like these top the charts)
(same reason we elect incompetent politicians to the job for some superficial reason or another)
(keep in mind that i STILL have not heard a single NOTE sung by a “straight white american male”!)
(“…not that there’s anything wrong with that!”)
“OUT OF TOUCH”
(DARYL HALL AND JOHN OATES)
(AKA “HALL AND OATES”)
(another lame “male musical duet”)
(at least they are ‘straight while american males’ for a change!)
(and both non-jewish to boot!)
(‘daryl hall’ is of ‘german stock’ near philadelphia)
(“oates” is ‘italian’ and ‘gibraltarian’ which explains his darker features)
(as ‘gibraltarian’ could end up descending from the “moors” (or muslims during their conquest of the ‘iberian peninsula’)
“LIKE A VIRGIN”
(MADONNA)
(‘lady gaga’ vs ‘madonna’)
(neither of them ca play the guitar)
(or can they?)
1985:
“I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS”
(FOREIGNER)
“CARELESS WHISPER”
(‘WHAM!)
(“featuring “george michael”)
(i thought he was always a part of the group?)
(did he want to cut loose from ‘group’ but still take advantage of the publicity associated with it?)
(much like “justin timberlake” and “‘n sync”)
(cue “boy bands”) (TITLE)
(2 patriarch surnames on father’s side of the of the family)
(“wham bam thank you ma’iam!”)
“CAN’T FIGHT THIS FEELING”
(REO SPEEDWAGON)
“ONE MORE NIGHT”
(PHIL COLLINS)
“WE ARE THE WORLD”
(“USA FOR AFRICA”)
(but read this “group name” again)
(you would assume it refers to the “united states of american” aid to ‘backwards africa’)
(but it really stands for “UNITED SUPPORT OF ARTISTS”)
(“artists” referring exclusively to “world famous musicians”)
(which featured practically every music ‘superstar’ known to man)
(the song was written by ‘michael jackson’ + ‘lionel richie’)
(“1983 – 1985 ethiopian famine”)
(as a ‘first worlder’ i tend to assume that most african countries (or any third world nation’ for that matter) are in a state of “perpetual famine”)
(defends on how we define “famine”!)
(as one man’s junk is another man’s treasure)
(“human rights abuses” were a major cause of this so-called ‘famine’)
(made it ‘strike harder’ / ‘come earlier’ / ‘last longer’ / ‘extend farther’)
