“NOVEMBER RAIN”

*17 SEPTEMBER 1991*

(with the release of 2 albums)

(“use your illusion 1” and “use your illusion 2”)

(seems rather pompous in retrospect)

(a downgrade from “purple rain”)

(in and of itself a downgrade from “the beatles”)

(in terms of “rock and roll fantasy”)

(i was about to enter second grade)
(i didn’t listen any specific music back then)

(but the ‘november rain’ music video was still getting lots of ‘MTV plays’ when i started watching in in third and fourth grade)

(because it was released as a ‘single’ on ’18 february 1992′)

(i was still in ‘2nd grade’)

(the B-side was the LP version of “sweet child o’ mine”)
(which had been released on their debut album)

.

“LOSER”
(“8 MARCH 1993”)

.

#1: “CANNONBALL”
(“9 AUGUST 1993”)

(I HAD JUST TURNED ‘9’)
(GOING INTH “4TH GRADE”)
(1 YEAR AFTER INTRODUCTION TO ‘GRUNGE’ / ‘Z100’ / ‘MTV’)

.

“SWEATER SONG”
(WEEZER)

(“10 MAY 1994”)

(i was just finishing up 4th grade)

(about to go to ‘middle school’)

(i listened to it on the radio with ‘mike pirigyi’ in his valley bedroom)

(it was playing on “Z100”)

(we both mocked the non-rhyming chorus and considered it a ‘joke song’)

(even the ‘buddy holly’ single never made me consider taking weezer seriously even though that was a great song)

.

“D.S.”
(MICHAEL JACKSON)
(“16 JUNE 1995”)

(i am about to enter sixth grade”)
(i transitioned from green day’s “dookie” in 5th grade)
(…to alanis morrisette’s “jagged little pill” in 6th grade)

.

#2: “CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA”
(“2 OCTOBER 1995”)

(I WAS 11 YEARS OLD
(IN “6TH GRADE”)
(makes sense)
(mountain biking with ‘the bucarellis”)
(who all smoke marijuana)
(and they aren’t even jewish!)
(italian + irish)
(i think i used to havea slight crush of mary)
(she seemed so ‘hip’ back then)
(even though she probably doesn’t even bother listening to my music)
(“all for show”)

.

“DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER”
(“2 OCTOBER 1995”)

(I HAD JUST TURNED ’11’)
(IN  “6TH GRADE”)

.

“EL SCORCHO”
(WEEZER)

(“19 SEPTEMBER 1996”)

(I HAD JUST TURNED ‘9’)
(GOING INTH “4TH GRADE”)
(1 YEAR AFTER INTRODUCTION TO ‘GRUNGE’ / ‘Z100’ / ‘MTV’)

.

“STEAL MY SUNSHINE”
(LEN)
(“22 JULY 1999”)

(summer before my second year of “high school”)
(when i was probably thinking about “carmela”)

.

“THAT WAS ME”
(“4 JUNE 2007”)

(i had just moved to the ‘east village’)
(i was ’22’ going on ’23’)
(i’d already released ‘finest hour’ last summer)
(i was working at “BGC partners” and smoking lots of marijuana)
(i was mostly listening to ‘the beach boys’ on my iphone)
(that was when the first ‘iphone’ was released and i stood in line for hours friday after work)
(i downloaded mccartney’s “memory almost full” album via itunes)
(making him that much richer)
(he’d never think to download MY album from ‘bandcamp’ for a fee!)

(most of the songs on the album sucked)
(especially the lame single “dance tonight” with him on some sort of ukulele like a little girl in his weak old lesbian voice)

(but “that was me” i’d watched an interview on ‘youtube’ where he described the making of that song)
(and it was great!)
(he was channeling his inner ’70s paul mccartney’ self)
(and he screams some nice high notes at the end!)
(that could very well be his “final great moment”)

(i felt a bit screwed)
(i graduated high school to “foolish” (ashanti) and “hot in here” (nelly))
(and i never even considered embracing those songs even for some ‘ironic disposition’)
(young black female / young black male)
(rap / “R&B”)

(’71’ and ’17’ you say?)
(i was never one to consider any significant ‘connections’ brought about by ‘number switching’)
(it seems too arbitrary to casually ‘switch’ numerals and then show some correlation in the ‘before’ / ‘after’ format)
(these are ‘orders of magnitude’ you’re messing with!)

(people who like it reveal their lack of musical + emotional “depth”)

THEMES

“Can’t Help Falling in Love” is a pop ballad originally recorded by American singer-songwriter Elvis Presley and published by Gladys Music, Elvis Presley’s publishing company

It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore and George David Weiss.[2]

The melody is based on “Plaisir d’amour”3, a popular romance by Jean Paul Egide Martini (1741–1816). It was featured in Elvis Presley’s 1961 film, Blue Hawaii.

during the following four decades, it was recorded by numerous other artists, including British reggae group UB40, whose 1993 version topped the U.S. and UK charts, and Swedish pop group A-Teens

           Em7
Very super-stitious, writing's on the wall.
Very superstitious, ladders bout' to fall.
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass.
Seven years of bad luck; the good things in your past.

That you don't under-stand, then you suffer.

           Em7

Rid me of the problem, do all that you can.
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong.
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song.
