-START LOADING UP ON “FUTURISTIC EFFECTS UNIT”-
(AND BE FERVENT IN APPLYING THEM TO RECORDINGS + PERFORMANCE)
(start saving up)
(they also ‘look good’ at shows)
(i was always dissuaded by effects)
(too many options)
(too many factors)
(use vocal effects only sparingly)
(reverb)
(or “transducer / autotune” effect)
(talkbox)
(so i simplified my music to acoustic guitar + voice)
(and be vigilant in in
(for ‘music exploratory’ purposes)
(as musicologists and critics the work of the others)
(the others do the heavy lifting)
(critics are probably all (failed?) musicians of one sort or another)
(better to get outs
(uncle tony told me in high school that ryan hamilton seemed like a better guitarist than me)
(that really annoyed me)
(he was fooled by all his fx)
(now i’ve shifted my pride from guitar to voice)
(now hardly anyone tells me i have bad voice)
(except
(but most willfully ignore)
(intentional ignorance)
(perpetual)
(unsophisticated listeners are easily ‘fooled’ by gimmicky effects)
(but the music doesn’t “date well”)
(my first guitar fx device was the “crybaby wah-wah pedal”)
(bought one of those from guitar center for $100 in high school)
(zaf bajwa also gave me some of his distortion pedals but i never ended up using them)
(onto BOSS RC-50)
(with looping capabilities that i hardly ever took advantage of)
(tried two shows in spring 2010 with it and it didn’t go over well)
.
BOSS RC-50
i purchased the boss RC-50 in late 2009…
i began performing with the device in january 2010
(during a solo show @ the sidewalk cafe)
(i used it for backing loops i’d upload from the imac)
(i used it for a may 2010 solo performance @ desmond’s tavern)
(and during the first section of my june 2010 performance @ watchung arts center)
(it didn’t go over very well)
(just play with the band)
(i used to use it for solo shows @ garfield’s in late 2010 / early 2011)
(i also used it for the march 2010 show @ rolfs)
i also used the device for their built-in backing tracks
(aka “big rock”)
(i wrote that song in february 2010)
i subsequently dropped the device (’round april)
fortunately it continued to work
.
.
i ended up selling the device back to guitar center for over $100 in spring 2012 (while i was an employee)…
short of cash again…

boss is a manufacturer of effects pedals for electric guitar and bass guitar
it is a division of the roland Corporation, a japanese manufacturer that specializes in musical equipment and accessories.
for many years boss manufactured a range of products related to effects processing for guitars, including “compact” and “twin” effects pedals, multi-effect pedals, electronic tuners, and pedal boards.
in more recent times they have expanded their line to include Digital Studios, rhythm machines and other electronic equipment.
boss rc-50 (looping)
boss me-50 (guitar effects)
following in the footsteps of goodfellas guitarist will gaybrick, i bought a boss…
(after college graduation 2005)
“boss corporation”
manufacturer of effects pedals for electric guitar and bass guitar
division of the roland corporation
(japanese manufacturer that specializes in musical equipment and accessories)
(i always wondered why magic dan looked japanese!)
the boss ME-50 guitar multiple effects board has served me well through the ages
(until it broke down in fall 2008 in my east village apartment)
(i suspect i left it near an open window during a ‘rainstorm’)
