“no more lonely nights” (themes)

(paul’s final #1 single)

(released 24 september 1984)

(off 1984 paul mccartney film/album ‘give my regards to broad street’)

(released as a single before the album was released)

(it notched paul another #1 but it was universally panned by critics)

ever the contrarian, i continue to consider it a classic.

david gilmour (of pink floyd fame) plays the guitar solo

david gilmour was a formative influence on my guitar style.

and david gilmour plays lead guitar like a dentist. but a really groovy psychedelic dentist who will get you high for free.

paul’s got a cat and mouse game going in his apartment here as he makes his morning tea. that’s a pretty nifty kitchen contraption he’s got going there. who is it he’s trying to phone? must be lovely linda. the number he dialed was 1 5 6 – 3 5 5 2. that must mean something. should use that # for the next pick 7.

paul unwittingly feeds the mouse his oatmeal. but the cat never catches the mouse. instead he walks outside right before paul. this also must mean something. a ‘paul is dead’ clue long since anyone cared? or just a plea for animal rights? (paul + linda became vegetarians in the early 70s after frolicing with sheep on their scottish far in the afternoon before having a lamb roast for dinner. then they got stoned and thought about how they just ate their newfound friends. and they vowed never to do it again. this brought unto them loads of good karma. they called the next album ‘ram’.

(and the one after that ‘wild life’)

(the rooftop looks a lot like my old east village roof)

(except there was no river nearby)

(closes with a spinning old-school film reel)
(nice touch)
