(the best ‘outliers’)

that didn’t quite make the ‘cut’ for our “top 144” (aka “12 x 12”) ‘sonic chronicles’)

(much like a “greatest hits” collection made up of songs that didn’t make it to the “top 12” of each album categorized by “season / years” of the time they were being written and recorded)

(the recording could very well take place many years after i considered it “written’)

(although one of the so-called ‘perks’ of being ‘willfully ignored’ is that you can keep revising and changing lyrics and embarrassing song titles without anyone noticing!)

.

(much like the notorious dangerfield…)

“so after _____ years, i ‘quit’…and worst part about it i was the only one who knew i quit!”

(i’m paraphrasing of course)

(“king of self-deprecation”)

(which was most likely ‘cathartic’ for him as well)

(i’m done with “self-deprecation” though)

(i think it’s implicit in my sarcastic (yet ultimately humble) persona)

.

#1

“SLOW DANCE”

(a “sim city” reject)

(as my first original song posted to ‘youtube’)

(‘january 2008’)

(after getting a ‘flip phone’ for ‘christmas 2007’ from the family)

(my ‘9th street apartment acoustic rendition’)

(with liliana the only ‘like’ i’ll ever get)

(now it’s set to ‘private’)

(truth be told…it embarrasses me)

(as i’my former self’ sits on a lonely shelf)

“mortuary”

the morgue”

(back in orbit again!)

“alright!”

.

.

(but i think i recorded the latest version @ ’61 clearview’)

(in late 2012 or 2013)

(the original nugget was part of a track called “little league” on the ‘tabula rasa’ CD)

(but this motif is what prompted the composition of the rest of the album)

“IN THE AIR TONIGHT”
(phil collins cover)
(what key?)
(we may as well play “freebird” next!)

OTHER SONGS I USED TO COVER BUT DO SO NO MORE…)

WEEZER*

“SWEATER SONG”

“SAY IT AIN’T SO”
(that was rival high school band “flux capacitor”‘s big song)

“EL SCORCHO”

“KEEP FISHIN’
“DOPE NOSE”
(the 2 songs i dug that summer from their ‘green’ album)
(and first drummer i jammed with ‘jack muse’ was a huge weezer fan)
(what was his favorite band?)

.

.

“LIVING FOR THE CITY”
(VERSES 3 and 4)
(also an “F#blues” groove)

.

#2

“BRAVE NEW WORLD”

(original title: “little rock”)

(try out ‘2010’ version and ‘2014’ version)

(both ‘extended plays’ and ‘radio edits’)

(should’ve probably went out with the “spring 2010′ triple album release)

(but i ended up recording a better version @ “mounts motel”)

(the first version was recorded in the watchung basement)

(C to D constant motif was inspired by when i accidentally stuck a drum sample into a MIDI piano track and subsequently got some really cool ‘tonal’ patterns since the drum samples are scored in standard notation as well)

(that was the only time i ever tried loops)

(the first time i tried it was in ‘january 2009’ @ ‘sidewalk cafe’)

(the extended intro of ‘little rock’ is played ‘straight’ (aka ‘no swing’))

(*PART OF “THEORY OF EVERYTHING” SONG CYCLE*)
(AND ITS BIG BROTHER “BIG ROCK”)

.

#3

“TOY STORY”

(recorded sometime in ‘spring 2010’)

(back when i was on some sort of creative ‘roll’)

(not yet 25)

(later used as opening track to ‘king of the cats’ song cycle)

(into paul mccartney’s ‘junk’)

.

#4

“TABULA RASA”

(that was the title of the 2009 album)
(but it also part of a song that eventually didn’t make the album)
(along with ‘sim city’ i wrote it in ‘january 2008’)
(written with liliana duet in mind)
(because she was taking the bus from jersey to visit my apartment on a chilly sunday afternoon)
(both songs were in ‘throughly in the red’ so to speak)
(that is to say…”Amajor”)

(the 2008 version i recorded with liliana was the opening track of my fall 2009 CD release “dinosaurs”)

(i started including the song with the ‘jogabot trio’ starting in ‘winter 2009’)

.

#5

“SA AND SONS”
(opening track to ‘bye bye birdie’ ‘middle school’ song cycle)
(recorded in ‘summer 2009’)
(watchung basement)

(“here’s to ‘middle school!’)
(…says no one at all)
(…says…no one…ever…)

.

#6

“REVENGE OF THE NERDS”

(included on ‘we won the war’ spring 2010 triple CD release)
(original title was “geeks”)
(a ‘lament for bergblum in Aminor’)
(later pegged as opening track of ‘harvard hop’ album)

.

#7

“MODERN LADY”

(writen + recorded in (late) ‘winter 2011’)

(while i was dating emma)

(used as opening track to ‘march madness’ album chronicling our relationship)

.

#8

“STOMP!”

(written in late fall 2011)
(for “get real” sessions”)
(but that makes ’13’)
(think “hurricane irene”)
(good thing i don’t know any ‘irenes’…do you?)

(at that time i was looking for a comprehensive list of “common chord progressions”)
(i figured ‘chord progressions’ considered ‘common’ were all ‘fair game’ so to speak)

(as in the standard “50s rock” ‘major’ to ‘relative minor’ to ‘fourth’ to ‘fifth)

(“relative minor” is a good candidate for the “girl talk” song cycle)

“jelly roll stomp”
(named for early jazz pianist ‘jerry roll morton’)
(mixed race new orleans louisiana)
(back when it was ‘ragtime’)
(1890 – 1941)

(“creole”)
(aka “free people of color”)
(in “french louisiana”)
(“creole” has a different meaning in “linguistics”)
(comparable to a “dialect” or “mix” of standard languages)

.

#9

“AGE OF CONSENT”
(aka ‘relative minor’)

(opening track of ‘girl talk’ song cycle)
(written for christine hauer in ‘summer 2010’)
(i was just getting over her then)

.

#10

“GRAPPLERS”

(opening track of ‘karate’ song cycle)
(written + recorded in ‘march 2010’)
(latest version recorded in ‘summer 2014’)

.

#11

“PEER PRESSURE”

(opening track of “chasing the dragon” song cycle)

(written in ‘summer 2009’)

(latest version recorded in ‘fall 2014’)

.

#12

“APPLE JACKS”

(opening track of “we ate like pigs” song cycle)

(written + recorded in ‘fall 2006’)

.

.

“THE SEASON OF PINK FLOYD”

(rename seasons in my musical tastes)

(but have them unevenly spread out)

(based on my own musical transitions)

(mostly a deepening of “refined taste” in what music deserves my attention)

(probably had a lot to do with what i felt about the singer and how he/she presented self to the public)

(or at least through the “MTV reporter” filter)

(a totally gay kurt loder as a predecessor to ‘anderson pooper scooper’)
