(i played ultimate frisbee during my senior year of high school)
(bergblum and i finally found a sport in which we could thrive as a duo)
(the caucasian stars amongst a team of diligent worker bee asians)
Here was an ideal come to fruition
(the Asian-Americans as pioneers / the first student-controlled varsity sport)
(was this the way of the future?)
I was insecure about my front-handed throwing technique
(both techniques were necessary for success on the frisbee field)
(when you were being guarded, you needed pivot points on both sides)
(*ghosts of baseball*)
(Asians gravitate towards the sport of baseball)
I hardly attempted the ‘hammer throw’
My success came from my speed and my ability to catch a frisbee
(even now, I get a thrill from catching something and running with it)
Completing a touchdown pass is nowhere near as exhilirating as catching a pass and running into the end zone for a touchdown.
Completing a touchdown pass is a more orderly affair
(the quarterback, protected by his army, is the general)
I’ve since mastered the art of frisbee-throwing
(the post-college domination of ‘Cassidy’s Cubs’ at the Vo-Tech School)
(the frisbee catch with J-Bass and Taylor at Valley View School)
It was then that I discovered that Shane, for all his athletic abilities, cannot throw a baseball (he couldn’t even throw a softball back to a little girl in the outfield / and the crowd laughed at him)
