*a bus is a ‘road vehicle’ designed to carry many ‘passengers’*

.

(buses can have a capacity as high as ‘300 passengers’)

(the most common type of ‘bus’ is the ‘single-decker rigid bus’, with larger loads carried by ‘double-decker’ and ‘articulated buses’, and smaller loads carried by ‘midibuses’ and ‘minibuses’; ‘coaches’ are used for ‘longer-distance services’)

(many types of buses, such as ‘city transit buses’ and ‘inter-city coaches’, charge a ‘fare’)

(other types, such as ‘elementary’ or ‘secondary school’ buses or ‘shuttle buses’ within a ‘post-secondary education campus’ do not charge a ‘fare’)

(in many jurisdictions, ‘bus drivers’ require a ‘special license’ above and beyond a regular ‘driver’s license’)

(‘buses’ may be used for ‘scheduled bus transport’, ‘scheduled coach transport’, ‘school transport’, ‘private hire’, or ‘tourism’; ‘promotional buses’ may be used for ‘political campaigns’, and others are ‘privately operated’ for a wide range of purposes, including ‘rock’ and ‘pop’ band tour vehicles)

(‘horse-drawn buses’ were used from the ‘1820s’, followed by ‘steam buses’ in the ‘1830s’, and ‘electric trolleybuses’ in ‘1882’)

(the first ‘internal combustion engine buses’ (or ‘motor buses’) were ‘in use’ by ‘1895’)

(recently, interest has been growing in ‘hybrid electric buses’, ‘fuel cell buses’, and ‘electric buses’, as well as ones powered by ‘compressed natural gas’ or ‘biodiesel’)

(as of the ‘2010s’, ‘bus manufacturing’ is increasingly ‘globalized’, with the same ‘designs’ appearing around the world)

.

the only way to get to jersey city by bus is via port authority

(i can even take buses from washington square park to port authority)

it’d take about 23 minutes (and then a walk)

and cost ~$5

since being moved to the motel on february 1, i’ve gained familiarity with the NJ transit bus + rail schedule…

www.njtransit.com

the information phone # is (973)275-5555…monday – friday from 9am to 5pm you can dial in the 5-digit bus stop # and the bus line # to find out when the next bus will arrive…or you can speak with an operator…

(or text 69287 with bus stop # to get next bus arrival time)

buses leave twice an  hour from nassau street + witherspoon…tickets can be purchased at the palmer square kiosk ($28 for round trip)…90-minute bus ride…to port authority…last bus to princeton leaves at 1am…

31 may 2014:

took the 11:44am 603 bus to quaker bridge mall…followed by the 12:21pm 600 bus to princeton junction station…then i caught a 1:10pm train to secaucus upper level…i still had to pay $13.50 for a ticket to millington station…the old NYP –> PRINCETON tickets from last year still worked…i have one more left (although it’s way faded)…i caught the 3:20pm dover train on track B…

i ended up having roboray pick me up at summit station anyway…

roboray dropped me off at summit station the next day…i got the 3:44pm train to secaucus upper level…6pm dover train on track B…landed at princeton junction ’round 7pm…only the last 600 bus out of there was 6:53pm on sundays…i panicked…bought a train ticket to princeton station in haste…then i ended up catching a free shuttle to princeton university (for reunion weekend?)…i ended up sitting around for hours waiting for a 606 train…luckily i was able to use my may bus pass…

the next day i flagged down a 603 bus to quaker bridge mall…i was planning on catching the 11:38am 613 bus but it came early…don’t know what the 603 bus was doing there but i’m glad she stopped for me at the abandoned party city parking lot (“don’t do that again”)…and that she let me go with the may bus pass…caught the 2:00pm 605 bus to princeton…again i got away with using my may bus pass…

so i caught a 613 bus to east state street…right at the east/west transition point…sold my camera for $15…they wouldn’t buy the used headphones or mice…they offered $10 and i countered with $15…i should’ve countered with $20…

the 1:12pm bus came early and i missed it…

wasted a cigarette at the damn bus stop…sweating and preparing to be robbed in my corduroy jacket…and the automated bus telephone line wasn’t working…my sweat was getting in the way of the dialing…and one number was ripped off the damn bus stop…the 613 bus came even though it only said 603 on the bus stop sign…

the 613 bus didn’t stop for me even though i was walking right up to the bus stop…

but the 603 came a few minutes later…

but that delay caused me to miss the 5:45pm 605 bus to princeton…

and my phone was dead by then…

asked a cute chubby retarded girl with a laptop to look up the train schedule…

she had to have me read the times (she was waiting on the same bus)

i laid down for a while and browsed “spencers”…drawing inspiration from the t-shirts of hip “iconic” figures from the classic rock lexicon…

caught the 7:00 bus…

hope they accept my bus pass so i’m not stranded in trenton tomorrow morning…

(then take noon bus into princeton)

got 5pm 605 bus to quaker bridge mall

(then 5:30pm 600 bus back to room)

catching 8:51pm 600 bus to train station

(also an 8:53pm bus?)

otherwise my last hope is the midnight bus…

got the 1:23pm bus to north warren + perry…it was late…and crowded and ugly…should’ve got off the previous stop…

realized that i could’ve been taking the 600 bus into trenton…right near the community college…

instead i got the 11:23am 613 bus…got there before 12…had to go to 144 perry street…they were running late…

the 8:09pm bus came and went…

at this point my only hope is the 10:14pm bus…

should i get the 12:34am bus?

do i catch the 2:13pm 613 bus tomorrow or is that cutting it too short???

buses:

7:50pm

8:56pm

9:56pm

i struck out calling people as i walked to get the 606 bus (which arrived right on time)…

i finally decided to catch the 9:56pm bus not realizing that it was saturday and there was a different schedule…it was actually 10:14pm (i should’ve caught the 9:19pm bus)…i was 26 minutes early after a long trek…

so i caught the 8:56pm bus to princeton…it was late as usual…

took the 6:26pm bus back…it was starting to rain…

missed the fucking 11:27am bus because i was looking for my ipod…

and now i’m pushing it back to the 3:15pm bus

i pigged out on sun dried tomato bread and desserts while waitng for the bus…

should i take the 2pm bus so i get there before they run out of food?

it seems the NYC trips will always be a roll of the dice in terms of travel…if worst comes to worst i just plant myself in the trenton transit center until its time to catch the 5:30am bus…how bad can that be?

12:45pm bus

should i return on the 8pm bus to hit up karaoke tonight?

(or wait until tomorrow?)

waited for the 10:18pm bus

(which seems to be the last 605 bus on thursday nights)

and visit elisa for bus pass…

will 12:36pm bus let me catch 12:45pm bus?

i managed to catch the 12:45pm bus

the bus didn’t come to quaker bridge until sometime past 11:18pm…i was the only white person on the bus…and the black bus driver almost drove right past my stop…

i was getting bit by mosquitos while waiting for the bus…

the other bus stop # is 30184

next bus to quaker bridge is 9:40pm (runs every hour)

the 613 bus came at 9:33pm and didn’t stop for me at the party city parking lot

.

*FEBRUARY 2014*

the princeton human services office issues me a monthly bus pass…

i received the first pass in february (in preparation for the job search program in trenton)…it’s a zone 3 pass…which means i can travel 3 zones with the ticket…it’s two zones just from lawrenceville to trenton (but only one bus driver has ever called me on this)…and even he let me slide…goes for $85 on the free market…it’s an intrastate pass…which means it won’t take me to NYC/philadelphia…

it ain’t even worth it to take the bus…

it’d cost over $48 without a bus pass…

(which means it would be cheaper to take the train…)
