(i had just finished recording ‘finest hour’)
(and had just started a heavy pot routine)
(and had been flirting with alison golkin
(‘Bell Bottom Blues’ was one of my favorite songs during the summer of 2003)
(i heard while driving with my father to one of my brother’s baseball games)
(i was hoping to see ‘kristin higgins’ at the games back in 7th grade)
(my mother loved Eric Clapton’s singing voice)
(same with james taylor + paul mccartney)

(he’s an underrated vocalist)
(she bought his 2000 collaboration with BB King “Riding With The King”)
(now i’d get jealous if she listened to anyone else but me)
(so she ceased listening to music altogether)
(out of sheer familial loyalty)
(my mother deemed ‘Eric Clapton’ + ‘BB King’ to be the two greatest guitarists on ‘Earth’)
(but what did she know?)
(she also hyped ‘stevie ray vaughan’ to me)
(i was initially impressed)
(but overall i found him really boring)
(even though i forced myself to listen to his “greatest hits’ album while during my high school homework near my stereo)
(same with my ‘dave matthews band’ CD)
(before i’d put on the beatles CDs i really wanted to listen to)
(as a teenager, i asked her to assess my guitar abilities)
(she placed me somewhere in the range between ‘keith richards’ + ‘eric clapton’)
(i was probably bette than neither one of them at that point)
(but i thought i was because i could play “faster”)
(i always had a great confidence in my guitar abilities)
(i’ve only recently gained confidence in singing voice)
(after years of vicious criticism)
