“MENTHOL”
menthol is an organic compound made synthetically or obtained from cornmint, peppermint, or other mint oils…
it is a waxy, crystalline substance, clear or white in color, which is solid at room temperature and melts slightly above.
The main form of menthol occurring in nature is (−)-menthol, which is assigned the (1R,2S,5R) configuration.
Menthol has local anesthetic and counterirritant qualities, and it is widely used to relieve minor throat irritation.
Menthol also acts as a weak kappa Opioid receptor agonist…
now i smoke newports (bought @ mccaffrey’s) for its menthol content. they are strong enough and the menthol doesn’t leave a bad taste in the mouth the following morning.

i believe it was michael ahlstrom who recommended camel turkish gold cigarettes to me…i was a high school senior and had never smoked cigarettes before…

back in brick, i’d been in the habit of smoking a pack of camel turkish blues every day for two days straight. i felt my voice growing raspier. i knew i’d better give the habit up for a while lest i permanently ruin my voice. it’d save me $8 a day as well.

i finished the rest of my malt liquor and bought a pack of “camel crush” cigarettes to get me through the day (i finished the pack by the end of the day). apparently its only advantage is the “menthol” (i never noticed)…
“camel crush” is an R. J. Reynolds cigarette product that contains a capsule in the filter that, when crushed, releases a mentholated liquid that causes the smoke to be menthol flavored. When the tobacco smoke passes through this liquid-saturated filter, it gives it a menthol taste. The cigarette was released in the United States on August 25, 2008
an entire pack of camel turkish golds yesterday…just made me gag (along with all the vodka)…
found a nearly full pack of camel blues on the bench in palmer square…with 3 cigarette butts and a red lighter on the ground…i took one and smoked it…debating whether or not to take the pack…then i noted a security camera above the J. Crew store and i decided to first ask the kiosk mexican clerk if anyone bought the pack…he said no but cops sometimes leaves things (like bikes) out to catch thieves?…said i could come back tomorrow if no one claims it…i asked if i could get it before the 8:47pm bus came…because i saw a fucked up indian girl furiously smoking a cig outside the car…she declined when i asked for a smoke…
right as the bus came i asked him for it…he said sure take it…then i asked a pretty blonde girl sitting on the same bench if it was hers…she said no but take it if i want…she would…also spotted dina debenetti and that busty fat brunette that declined me for a big black at the ivy inn all those months ago…both didn’t see nor notice me…the fat chick got on the same 606 bus as me…

bought a pack of newports with my busking money on saturday…went through a pack a day for three straight days…accidentally bought the “short” version at the princeton kiosk on sunday morning…the other 2-3 times i bought them at the motel front desk…they started to lose their allure once i was out of booze…and i couldn’t comfortably smoke outside the motel room without running into gabriel…

bought a pack of newports from the motel front desk @ 6am sunday morning…now it’s monday evening and i still have a few cigarettes left…use them to stick the roach residue from last night and smoke it…i’ll need to buy another pack…but i can’t go to franklin liquors…all this cigarette smoking is going to fuck up my voice…and in terms of buzz it seems to be hit-or-miss these days…the dope in the system seems to amplify the nicotine effect…
i reloaded on newports and a 12-pack midway through the day…
