(i discovered this beer in ‘spring 2012’ while looking up the “strongest beer” on the internet)
they sold it at a liquor store in lavalette…
it became my go-to 40oz when i moved to princeton in september 2012…
when i moved to princeton, i began drinking 2 40oz bottles of ‘steel reserve’ (12% ABV) every day.
i soon progressed to 1 steel reserve mixed with a pint of “gilbey’s” vodka (the cheapest variety at the local liquor store).
the malt liquor is an ideal tonic for vodka…
sometimes i’d venture to nassau liquors…
but they don’t sell steel reserve, vodka pints, nor four loko!
and they won’t even let me work there!
i’m going to get drunk this afternoon.
$2.93 for a 40oz steel reserve
(i only had $2.75 in quarters but the indian cashier let me slide)
)he informed me that their prices had just increased…great!)
steel reserve is labeled a “high gravity” beer (which initially didn’t make sense to me…
(is gravity not supposed to pull downward?)
it’s actually a reference to the “specific gravity” of the beer (as in the relative density of the “wort” compared to water @ various stages in the fermentation process)
“steel reserve” is the strongest “beer”…
but it doesn’t go down very well…
i drank through my pint of vodka / 40oz steel reserve…
i got totally hammered on steel reserve last night…
john the drunk turned me onto cans
(as opposed to my more cost-efficient 40oz bottles)…
and then 4 40-ounce bottles of steel reserve…
(when i moved to the ‘mounts motel’ in ‘february 2014’, i found that the local liquor store sold steel reserve 40s in ‘plastic bottles’)
.
*28 april 2014*
three 40oz steel reserves and a pack of benson + hedges cigarettes on saturday night…
then i went for three 40oz bottles of steel reserve…
i got too drunk to properly sing…
.
*4 july 2014*
and i spent the rest of my money on 3 steel reserves
(and finished the last of my cigarettes)
friday afternoon…
fourth of july…
the withdrawals started kicking in so i went to the liquor store for three 40oz bottles of steel reserve…
they were gone by the end of the day…
i only bought the steel reserves because the withdrawals were setting in…
how did i drink so much after keeping sober for so many weeks?
i easily went through the vodka handle in 2 days…
…and the 3 steel reserves in a day…
.
*11 september 2014*
used the $5 cheryl gave me to buy a 40oz steel reserve for $3.25…
got me buzzed enough to get back into vocal recording early thursday evening…
bought myself a steel reserve for $3.25…
that isn’t enough…
and now i’m going to want to smoke…
i guess i can go for a black n mild…
get some vocals down while you’ve got a buzz…
the neighbor arrives home early in the afternoon…
witnessed a car accident on route 1 today…
the indian owner at the liquor store isn’t very friendly…
can’t avoid gabriel and his wife walking…
the useless pieces of shit…
.
*17 september 2014*
spent the last of my money on a steel reserve on a wednesday afternoon to try to get into recording mode…
it just left me loopy…
and i got in trouble with a bunch of managers @ ski barn after going to the back to see if i could bum a cigarette
(i was just buzzed enough to know that a cigarette would take me to the next level)
too nervous to bum them from the high-class whores…
(their johns may come after me)
(if the motel staff doesn’t first)
and pedro didn’t have any cigs
now my last plastic bottle has the nasty aftertaste of steel reserve…
the ‘steel reserve’ left me sickly
(with nasty shits)
