shop class

(mister thomas)
(who was also a math teacher for the bobos)

(i was intimidated in shop class)
(i was afraid of the machines)
(i was afraid that my woodworking project would be the worst)

(like how in third grade doug stollen let me go from the wood engravings we were planning to sell them in third grade ‘mini-society’)

(kathleen + kim vigorously defended me to stollen after school)

PROJECTS:

*tic-tac-toe board*

(eventually i scrawled ‘the beatles’ in pen in the front of the board)

*napkin holder*

(my placeholder didn’t run down smoothly from the poles)
(but my family used it at the dinner table)
(did they just feel sorry for me?)

*sweatshirt (with ‘golf’ logo)”

(seventh grade was for silk-screening)
(i made a ‘golf’ sweatshirt)
(my parents still wear it)
(it was a moderately clever design)

*mallard mug rack*

(just like it sounds)
(with a ‘mallard’ perched on the top of the board)

(going into fifth grade we were told to bring mugs to class for ‘hot chocolate snacks’)

(designed to get us excited to go back to school)

(my family also used this rack)
(although it probably wasn’t any good either)
