(my first “real” landlord was an orthodox jew named “izzy”)
(he never bothered me at all)
(he (or one of his henchmen) just came by once a month to slip the rent bill under my door)
(and i even had him on the defensive when i went without power for a week in july and i often lacked hot water for my morning shower)
(he offered to take several hundred dollars of the rent one month)
(and he never gave me shit for all the music-making noise i made in the apartment)
(and i could smoke grass in there to my heart’s content)
(…though eventually when i moved out he did charge me several hundred dollars for scotch-taping the walls)
