(from there, you can re-name the ‘tag’)

*in the ‘main menu finder section’, right-click on any item to access this ‘context menu’* –>

(if you hover your pointer over the ‘circles’, the name of the associated tag will replace the “tags…” text underneath)

*you can also click on “add tags” in the ‘top right corner’ of the window*
(the top row is called the “toolbar”)

*open ‘finder preferences’* –>

*click on the ‘tags’ tab* –>

*you can designate your ‘top 7’ tags by dragging them from the ‘top list’ to the ‘bottom box’*
(once they are inserted, you can ‘drag/drop’ to customize order)
(you can now select a tab and then press [CONTROL] + [1/2/3/4/5/6/7] to quickly add these tags to an item)
*hitting [CONTROL] + [0] clears all tags from the item*
(to remove a ‘tag’ from the ‘top 7 list’, drag it out of the confines of ‘bottom box’ until you see an ‘x’ sign)
(then release it and it will leave in a poof of digital smoke)

*you can search for tags by typing the ‘tag name’ in the ‘finder search box’ in ‘top right corner’* –>

*tags are also listed in the ‘finder left sidebar’*
(go to the ‘tags tab’ in ‘finder preferences’ to choose which tags are listed in the sidebar)

*you can also group items by ‘tag’*
*go to ‘groups dropdown menu’ in ‘finder top toolbar’ and select ‘tags’* –>

*you can also sort items by ‘tag’*
(first turn off ‘group by’ by selecting ‘none’ in the ‘group by button’ in ‘finder top toolbar’…)

*then go to ‘actions dropdown menu’ and select ‘sort by’* –>

(just like in ‘group by’)
(only difference is that ‘group by’ lists each ‘tag title’ before listing the items containing that ‘tag’)

*to remove tags from an item, right-click a selected item and choose ‘tags’* –>

*select the tag you want to remove and hit the ‘minus button’* –>

*click on the ‘blue checkmark box’ to the right of each ‘tag’ to show/hide the tag in the ‘finder left sidebar’* –>

*click on the ‘color box’ to the left of the ‘tag name’ to choose its ‘color’* –>

*click a tag, click on the ‘tag name’, then wait until it enters ‘edit mode’ to type in a new ‘tag name’* –>
