-[NUT/BOLT/WASHER/WRENCH] SET [1]-
.
“FLAT WASHERS”
Flat washers (from the M5 kit)
Purpose:
load distribution + surface protection
They are meant to:
Spread clamping force
Prevent a nut or knob from digging into softer metal
Reduce cosmetic damage
.
Where they belong
Outside a joint
Under a nut or under a knob
Not inside a pivot where friction is required
π In your setup:
Flat washer on the right side under the nut = βοΈ correct
Flat washer inside the hinge = β useless for holding angle
.
“LOCK WASHERS”
(split / spring washers)
Purpose: resist loosening from vibration
They work by:
Acting like a tiny spring
Digging into metal faces
Increasing resistance to rotation of the nut
Where they belong
Static joints (brackets, enclosures)
Places you never intend to adjust
Where they absolutely do NOT belong
Adjustable pivots
Tilt joints
Anything you want to reposition
π In your mic arm:
Lock washer inside or outside = β bad idea
It will:
Make adjustment jerky
Chew up metal
Still not solve droop properly
So: do not use the lock washers here.
