after our cleanup of the icloud drive + google drives on my macbook, i’m trying to figure out best workflow going forward. my google drive accounts would function as a digital dumping ground.
right now, i have 4 google drive accounts connected to macbook

to break it down, [josephjgatti / jogajungle / gattivision] are part of a 6-account 10TB “family plan”. i had also previously had 2TB plans for “jogajungle” + “gattivision” which is why that storage capacity is listed as 12TB.
the “samuelpeterson1232020” account is not part of the family plan, it has its own 2 TB plan. i use the “samuelpeterson1232020” account to back up my (unsurprisingly) huge wordpress site, which has its own domain but most of it is a “private reference tool” for me with over 30K interconnected entries, like a personal wikipedia. each updraft backip is roughly 45 GB and a new backup is created every day to the samuelpeterson account. even though there are other files on the account, i only want to use it for wordpress backups so i will be moving the rest of the files to another account. so i let it back up on daily basis until it reaches capacity around every 3 weeks or so. then i delete all backups except the 2 most recent, which brings the storage back down to around 1 TB on the samuel peterson account. i have a bluehost plan that gives me 250GB so the large website size is able to function relatively normally. .
in addition to the 3 other accounts on my “family plan”, i have several hundred google accounts that only contain 15GB each. this was back before they prevented multiple accounts by requiring a phone number to be connected to account and they don’t let you use the same # for different accounts. i have been planning for a while to clear out and consolidate these accounts into my preimum accounts but keep putting it off. but now i have to get going on this because google has announced they will deactivate any google account that hasn’t been logged into for over 2 years. so i’m not even sure that many of these accounts have been wiped out already. i have a meticulous database of the accounts so that i can actually monitor them effectively. i was going to use “multcloud” for a faster consolidation of these 15 GB “account chunks”.
but overall we can operate under the premise that i have unlimited space to store files in google drive. because in addition to the previous accounts mentioned, i have 2 other 2 TB accounts not connected to macbook. i stopped paying for them, but they are filled to capacity and a lot of them are duplicates of files contained in my “family plan” which means i can eventually wipe out space on family plan by seeing which files i already have stored in other premium accounts.
the first task i want to complete is to monitor/eliminate all duplicates, both on the local storage of macbook and the cloud storage accounts. i have “gemini 2” which detects local duplicates, i don’t think they can be used for cloud accounts at the moment. i’m not sure if there is any de-duplication program for icloud. google has stated that they are planning to eliminate duplicates from user accounts by converting duplicate files into shortcuts back to original file. maybe they have rolled this out, but i doubt it, more duplicates means you pay for more storage. there was a sketchy app i was using called “duplicate file finder” that i wasn’t quite comfortable with. then i recently i discovere a premium program called “filesrev” which i preparing to see if this can be the answer for de-duplicating my cloud accounts.
the next priority i have is to create standard directories across local/cloud storage spaces. earlier you had shown me how to remove icloud drive files from local storage by selecting all folders, right-clicking, and choosing “remove download”. is there any way to accomplish this for google drive accounts? the way google drive for desktop describes it, disconnecting an account should remove the local downloads, and it warns you that it will remove the local downloads, but as you showed me, it leaves tons of lingering data bloating up the computer.
i want to create a “standard directory” to apply to this dumping ground to provide order.
