i held off on the release of “banjogai” since there was little reaction to the previous two releases…

.

“FINEST HOUR” –>

in spring 2006, i recorded my debut solo album “finest hour” (in home studios @ watchung + chadwick beach island NJ) and released it to itunes (under the “gatti-vision” moniker)…

i was 21 years old…

i spent a year recording all 50+ songs i’d written up to that point and choosing the strongest 78 minutes of music to fill the CD…

i had originally intended to record a 10-song acoustic demo after purchasing recording equipment from the local guitar center in september 2005:

jacquelina divine
trespassing
katerina
risky business
why did it die?
magazine
eminem
finest hour
what do you want me to do?
emergency surgery

i planned on burning CDs of the demo and distributing them to record labels…

then i discovered drum loops…

so i borrowed magic dan’s bass guitar for years on end and began building my own rhythm sections…

when a bass guitar wasn’t available, i’d run my electric guitar through a -1 octave pedal…

many of the songs were based on musical patterns i learned from my former guitar instructor “don juan”…

the cover art was designed by the discmakers graphics team based on my sketches…

features a photo of me dressed as “purple rain”-era prince with acoustic guitar for hampshire halloween 2005…as well as a photo of my home studios @ watchung + chadwick beach island…a generic visual concept of “from earth to outer space”…

i eventually left “eminem” off the album…the time signatures proved too complicated at that stage…i’ll eventually re-release it to “the creeps”…

.

PRE “FINEST HOUR”:

i started writing songs before i could play an instrument…mostly silly songs meant to ridicule my younger sister…”emily is laying the heat”…a crude reference to her flatulent tendencies…later retitled “heat death”…

when i started taking guitar lessons at age 13, i started writing songs in earnest…the first song i wrote was based off a jazz chord progression that my instructor outlined for me…”heart on the ceiling” (later retitled “airborne”)…i based the lyrics off a variety of classic rock cliches…

in high school i received a 4-track TASCAM machine as a christmas gift…before this, i’d record songs on my mother’s old tape recorder with my brother’s casio keyboard and the family piano…i learned how to multitrack (in the crudest fashion)…but i never exported any of the songs to computer to share with others…and i was never able to figure out how to add drums to the mix…

my first original song i deemed worthy of promotion was “the sinner” (written at age 14)…despite various attempts throughout high school, i never completed a working demo of the song…i plan to eventually record a proper version of the song as part of the “riger mortis” album”…

in the summer of 2003, i recorded a 3-song demo @ quad sound studios with my band “the fat italians”:

homecoming
sadness
eternal recurrence

i burned several copies of the CD and gave them away to friends + family…but i never invested in proper packaging for the album…i eventually intend to release these songs…

“homecoming”
(‘good morning!’ album)

“sadness”
(“friend of dorothy” album)

“eternal recurrence”
(“clairvoyance” album)

(starting in (‘early spring’?) 2005, we (‘we?’ ‘who else?’) recorded 2 acoustic demos @ ‘quad sound studios’)

“jacquelina divine”

“trespassing”

(i started burning ‘CDs’ for ‘friends’ + ‘family’)
