*the world wide web is an ‘information space’ where ‘documents’ + other ‘web resources’ are identified by ‘uniform resource locators’ (URLs), interlinked by ‘hypertext links’, + can be accessed via the ‘internet’*

.

(english scientist ‘tim berners-lee’ invented the ‘world wide web’ in ‘1989’)

(he wrote the first ‘web browser computer program’ in ‘1990’ while employed at CERN in ‘switzerland’)

(that’s where LSD was discovered!)

(“there”s something about switzerland”)

(“and its ‘magic mountains’…”)

(the “world wide web” has been central to the development of the “information age” and is the primary tool billions of people use to interact on the ‘internet’)

(“web pages” are primarily text documents formatted and annotated with “Hypertext Markup Language” (HTML))

(in addition to ‘formatted text’, ‘web pages’ may contain ‘images’, ‘video’, ‘audio’, and ‘software’ components that are rendered in the user’s web browser as coherent pages of multimedia content)

(embedded ‘hyperlinks’ permit users to navigate between ‘web pages’)

(multiple ‘web pages’ with a common theme, a common ‘domain name’, or both, make up a “website”)

(“website content” can largely be provided by the ‘publisher’, or interactive where users contribute content or the content depends upon the user or their actions)

.

(‘websites’ may be…)

*(mostly) informative*

.

*primarily for ‘entertainment’*

.

*(largely for) (‘commercial’ / ”governmental’ / ‘non-governmental’) organizational purposes)

.

(in the 2006 ‘great british design quest’ organized by the ‘BBC’ + the ‘design museum’, the ‘world wide web’ was voted among the ‘top 10 british design icons’)

Date

Many web pages do not list the last date and time they were updated, modified, or changed.

This information can be determined by using one of the suggestions in the following sections.

JavaScript in the address bar

Copy and paste the JavaScript text from the box below into the address bar.

javascript:alert(document.lastModified)

Note

With dynamically generated content, this suggestion does not work.

Also, newer Internet browsers with an omnibox require the user to manually type in javascript: even after they paste the entire string

.

Perform Google search
Open the web page for which you’d like the last modified date.
Copy everything after the last forward slash.
Address bar in Chrome.

Paste what you copied into a Google search, or the omnibox at the top of your browser, and then press Enter.
At the top of your search results, you should see the date that indicates the last time the page was modified or updated.
Last date that a Computer Hope page was updated.

Internet Archive
Although this site will not give you an exact modified date, it should give you a general idea. Also, it allows you to view the history of a page, even if it is offline. Visit the Internet Archive, and then enter the URL of the page in question into their search bar.

Additional information

See our modify and web page definitions for further information and related links on these terms.
